INFO

Information: The first Jesuit monk, Fr. Michail Alvertinis, arrived in Tinos in 1661 and installed himself in Exombourgo, outside the fortress. The bishop gave him a church and residence inside the fortress until 1715, when it was conquered by the Turks.
Within a decade, with the help of friends and believers, the great church of Agia Sophia was built, which operated normally until 1846, when it was abandoned. After Jesuit Alousio Destro’s arrival on the island, the church was rebuilt and renamed to Iera Kardia Iisou (Sacred Heart of Jesus). Since then, several auxiliary rooms were added (halls, bedrooms, kitchen etc.) and the complex became a pilgrimage.
Today its fame expands outside Greece. Every Friday throughout the year, a Divine Liturgy is celebrated. In July, the annual feast lasts a whole week and believers from all over Greece come here to participate.
A hospitality center operates all year round, especially for young people from all over the world.
