- G. Karaiskakis, Greek Revolution Hero Monument
Description
On April 20, 1835, a transfer of Georgios Karaiskakis remains, Hero of the Greek Revolution, from Salamis island, was arranged. He was temporarily buried, at the spot that he had fallen dead, for the Greek independence . For the transportation on that day of the hero’s remains and their burial in Faliro Monument, a committee had been formed consisting of the Karaiskaki fellows, that were still alive. Also beside his burial monument, an austere tomb was built, where the bones of his comrades were deposited. The inauguration was done by King Othonas. Both monuments were transferred to a new location in March 1970, due to the extension and projects in the nearby old Karaiskaki stadium.
