Description

Pingouino cafe and lounge bar on Poseidonos avenue in Kato Paphos is a great place to visit if you need to relax and unwind whatever the time of day. Open from the morning until midnight, visitors can enjoy views of the Mediterranean while watching life go by and sipping a refreshing beverage.

This is one of the better established venues in the resort and has clients of all ages and nationalities. It has become a stalwart of Paphos and a popular place for people to meet up – and not just for the great views.

Whatever your tipple, the extensive drinks list includes coffees and teas, cold drinks, smoothies, milk shakes and ever popular with the kids – coke floats. Pingouino welcomes families and food is also served through the day.

The venture started out as a family run ice cream parlour and ice cream is still a popular choice here though, and a pick n mix selection is available.

Flavoured ice creams include timeless favourites as well as Cypriot specialties, such as rose. Sorbets and light ices of all flavours are also served.

Although breakfast and more substantial hot and cold food is on offer, locals tend to pop in for a quick coffee or drink and catch up with friends. Two hours later they find themselves still there and end up ordering food. Service is friendly and efficient and both the indoor and outdoor seating which is provided is comfortable.

The drinks list offers around 30 or so different cocktails and includes Mojito and Daquiris, Pina Colada and Black Russian. Brandy Sour and ‘Sex on the beach’ are both popular drinks with visitors, says staff. All of the usual alcoholic beverages are also on offer including beers, wine, liqueurs and aperitifs.

Certain times of day are busier than others and the food here, although nothing special is good, comforting and tasty. The venue was awarded a Trip Advisor certificate of excellence 2013.

Prices are affordable and like most places these days free wi-fi is available. A laptop is also provided.
