Information
It is the only kind of medical museum in the wider Greek space and possibly in the Middle East. The main objective of the creation of the preserve and enhance the practice of medicine in Cyprus, through the rich collection of exhibits made possible to secure and are old medical instruments, appliances and machines of another era and certainly a rich bibliography. The peculiarity of the museum finds the visitor from the first moment, through the artistic representations of medical practices applied during the last century. With the detailed simulations of the old medicine everyday and overall aesthetic that characterizes the setup, the museum takes you to another era demonstrates the enduring perception that health has always been and still is the greatest wealth.
The museum includes approximately 160 exhibits divided into 8 sections specialties which are highlighted through the appropriate placement on platforms with adequate lighting. Using dolls with medical and nursing uniforms along with audiovisual material covering each module, complete the whole informative setting within which includes representation of the birth process several decades ago. Visitors can still see a theater of 1950, Section 1950 of otolaryngology, ophthalmology 1940, orthopedics, radiology, pathology-cardiology and more. All the exhibits described their use, the period used and the donors who come from all over Cyprus. Machinery innovative for its time used as the first incubator came in Limassol in 1930, the first hemodialysis machine (1972) and the first microbiological microscopes (1960) are a few more of the rare exhibits of the museum carrying the visitor to practice that evolved over time. In the museum there is a rich collection of books that recount the course of the Cypriot medicine, specialized books, minutes of meetings and biographies of doctors. At the rear exterior of the museum there is a botanical garden with traditional plants and still currently used for therapeutic purposes.
