Description
The village Platres (Pano Platres or renamed in recent years after the renaming of the village Tornarides in Kato Platres) is located at an altitude of 1200 meters and is located about 25 km northwest of Limassol and 5 km south of Troodos Square.
The villagers numbering 280, and during the tourist season are more than 10000. Most villagers work in tourism.
The village church is dedicated to Panagia Faneromeni and there are many village chapels.
The building of the old Municipal Market of Platres has been restored and converted into a cultural center, where many events are hosted. The main hall has been named "George Seferis Hall".
Many nature trails runs through Platres more widespread trail of Caledonia (which leads to the homonymous waterfall), the path of Millomeri (leading to the namesake waterfall) and the path of the bridge of Milia.
