- Hot Springs of Polichnitos-Ιαματικά Λουτρά Πολιχνίτου
Description
On the way out of Polichnitos to Vatera, you can see the by – passing which leads to the Hot Springs. The water gushes from many springs, through volcanic, protogenic and secondary, porous prettifications its temperature varies between 67ο C and 92ο C (in the wash – basins it is between 40ο C and 41ο C) and it is considered as one of the hottest all over Europe. It contains Sodium – chloride and it is as good as that Wiesbaden in Germany. On the right, there is a line of low buildings. The Hot Springs are located among eucalyptuses and their tanks have been renovated on the old ones functioning years ago. There are both new and old carouse. The water gushes free and streams, painting the bottom where seaweeds grow red. A little farther, behind a forest of vroula, there is a group of buildings, with the long and narrow bed - chambers and the arches construction, we must also mention the small bridge with tree arches of Almiropotamos (among the few which still remain) and the old fountain made of the smooth, yellowish and pink stone.
The Hot Springs of Polichnitos were used during the Turkish domination and they have been working with two tanks sice 1953. Recently, they have constructed private baths and a modern massage room.
