Sikamnia

Description

Sikamnia is located in the northern part of Lesvos, 49.2 km from the city of Mytilene. It took its name from the mulberry trees. The stone houses of the village, with the breathtaking view of the blue Aegean sea compose an amazing and very authentic picture. The streets are traditionally cobble made.

The attraction is the church of St. Fotini. Its basilica was built in 1859 and inaugurated in 1861. Not far from the church stands the old house of the famous Greek writer Stratis Stamatopoulos, who is known by the nickname "Mirivilis".

The port area is Skala Skamnias, located 3 km from the village. In Skala Skamnias lies the church of Panagia Gorgona which is built on a rock.
