Parakila

Description

Parakila is located at the Gulf of Kalloni, 51.7 km from the city of Mytilene. It takes its name from the hill that it is built on and is translated as ‘despite the valley’. The area is green and has numerous orange groves.

Sights of the village include the dimensions tower with the remains of an ancient settlement around it, located in the northern mountain Isa. At the top of the hill, situated is the chapel of St. George, where one can see reliefs and decorations from an old building.

In the past, Its inhabitants were well known for their yarn crafts, carpets and rugs.

The village is also famous for its rhododendrons that exist in the surrounding mountains and are of unique existence throughout Europe.

Don't forget to visit the beautiful stone made bridge and the remains of the old Turkish mosque.

The picturesque fishing port and the beautiful beach of Parakila is located 1 km south of the cape of Medousi.
