Neochori

Description

Neochori is located in the southern part of Lesvos, 16 km north of the village of Plomari. It is a small village with rich vegetation and natural beauty. It was built by the Megalochori residents in this specific area, located a few miles southeast, as it was not visible from sea there and therefore protected from pirates. The original name of the village was Burma and the current name (Neochori) was taken in the 20th century.

Important monuments of Neochori are its old olive presses (one of which is going to become a Museum of the Olive), as well as Saint Constantine and Helen and Saint Catherine’s churches.
