Description

Mesargos is located in the southern part of Lesvos, 25.5 km west of Mytilene. It is just 5 km from the sea and is situated at the foot of the Mount Petrovouni at an altitude of 175m. The village is inhabited since 1500 AD.

The attraction of the village is the Turkish mosque with a christian cross that stands in the top of the building. Today only the old minaret remains.

Besides the mosque, interest is also drawn to the oven covered with Theophilos paintings that animate scenes from the cultivation of wheat and bread baking.
