Description

Megalochori is located in the southern part of Lesvos, 9 km from the village of Plomari. It is one of the very few villages of Lesvos, built on such a high altitude, that of 645m. It is also called Old Plomari as almost all its inhabitants moved to Plomari.

Sights of the village are the church of St. John and the church of Transfiguration of Christ. North of the village there is an area called Akklisith with two small chapels.

Also at the center of the village one can find the monument dedicated to Benjamin of Lesvos. Every year there's a celebration to honour his memory both at Megalochori and Plomari.
