Description

Loutra is located 8.8 km from the town of Mytilene. It is situated in the western slopes of Mount Amali among lush olive trees. The village takes its name from the hot springs that still exist at the mouth of the Gulf of Gera.

Sights worth visiting include the church of Agios Georgios with its tall bell tower, built in 1815. In the south of the village, at Palioloutros traces of ancient settlement are located. A little higher, there are ruins from the Byzantine era, where it is said that Empress Irene lived and died. Also in the Cesmedes area, 3.5 km southeast of the village, is the Basilica church of Loutra with its wonderful tricolor mosaic.

The name of the port of Loutra is Skala Loutron which consists of a very picturesque harbor.
