Description
Lisvori was founded in the 11th - 12th century. Its original name was ‘Lesvorion’ which came from the words Lesvos and limit.
The village is famous for the production of anise and the handmade bread from the local grains. Produced here are the most aromatic oils of Lesvos. It is said that the Temenos area has the oldest olive trees on the island.
Remarkable are the hot Springs of Lisvori with temperature riding up to 69°C. The area holds great archaeological interest.
It is believed that there was the ancient city of Lesvos from which the whole island was named after. The historical importance of Lisvori, is also illustrated by the names of the region Temenos and Temenitis. In this position foundations of ancient buildings and pottery pieces have been found.
The unique areas of Kroutir and Skamnioudi should definitely be visited.
