Description

Located  40 km northwest of Mytilene, Kalloni is the second biggest city in population after Mytilene. It is blessed by nature and embraced by the waters of its bay.

Kalloni is of rich history and this is reflected in the existence of numerous archaeological sites, such as Ancient Arisvi, Pira, the temple of Mesa, Klopedi, Makara and Apothika. The existence of a small medieval castle, on the top of the hill Paleokastro indicates its ancient position in the region.

The coast of the gulf of Kalloni has entered the ‘Natura 2000’ Network, as it constitutes an excellent shelter and breeding area for rare and protected species of birds. The salterns of Kalloni gather many birds (flamingos and other species), offering an impressive spectacle to bird watchers.

The port of Kalloni is Skala Kalloni, with a beautiful fishermen port. At Skala Kalloni you can go swimming and one can taste the famous ‘Sardines of Kalloni’.
