Description
Eresos is located at the southwest side of the island, between two hills and it is 89km away from Mytilene. The lush vegetation, the volcanic landscape, the wonderful village with the remarkable historical monuments in the area, make it an ideal place to stay and explore.
In the center of the town is the central square of Platanos, a name taken from the perennial plane that exists there.
The ancient philosopher and father of botanics Theofrastos & the lyric poetess Sappho were born there.
Other areas of particular interest are Psaropotamos, which is located in the estuary west of Skala Eressos, and the river of Tsichliota between Eressos and Sigri.
Full of wild oleanders and red almyrichia, it hosts many species of aquatic migratory birds, large populations of turtles (Mauremys caspica) and grass snakes (Natrix tessellata).
On the beach of Skala Eressos, colorful wildflowers color the coast and in the summer near the dunes the beautiful white lilies meet the sea.
