According to the legend, a young man from Mytilene immigrated to America in the early 20th century, in search of a better future in the "land of opportunity". Arriving in New York, the view of the Statue filled him with hope. So, he made a promise to himself, that if he could become rich, he would go back home and set up a statue similar to New York’s! And that’s the story of our Statue of Liberty!

This unusual statue is located a few dozen meters away from the Port of Mytilene, in Tsamakia region, at the spot where the Kastreli fortress stood until 1922.
