Hot Springs of Agios Ioannis (Saint John) at Lisvori

;

Description

The origin of hot springs of Lisvori is connected with the intense volcanic activity in the North-eastern Aegean, 21.5 – 16.5 million years ago. Some of the magma concentrations remain below the ground of the island, a short distance from the surface. Thus, the rain water flowing beneath the earth gets hot and returns to the surface through various cracks and crevices as hot springs. During its journey through the rocks, the water is enriched with minerals that have therapeutic properties.
