Panagia Glykofilousa (Virgin Mary Sweet Kissing) Church is one of the most significant religious monuments of Lesvos and the landmark of Petra. It is located on a giant monolith and reached via 114 rock-hewn steps.

There are many myths and stories of miracles related to the church’s construction and the finding of Virgin Mary’s Holy Icon.

Thousands of orthodox pilgrims from all over Greece and abroad visit the Church every year, on August 15th, during the celebrations for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
