Description

Xylofagou village located on the south- eastern tip of Cyprus, about three miles from Cape Pyla, in a low plateau. It is one of the "Kokkinochoria" (red villages), which belongs in Larnaca district. The closest villages are Ormideia, Liopetri and Avgorou. The current population is about 8000. 

The population of the village is pure Greek. The village appears to be more than 200 years old. The first inhabitants of the village were shepherds and the reasons why they settled here were many, firstly he area was a vast pasture due to the forest and the rocky uncultivated ground, secondly these parts were then remote and discomfort from Turks and were more sparse, thirdly the village is not seen from the sea because of "Pampoula" that rises to the south and thus saves pirates, often ravage the coast villages and last but not least the amount of water they cold find in the old wells. 

The first people who moved to the village were from Kalavasos, Livadia, the Ormideia, as well as from Mytilene and Kranidi, Greece. 

Additionally Xylopfagou is widely known for the best quality production of potatoes as well as various other kinds of vegetables, i.e. tomatoes, cucumbers, onions carrots etc.
