Kato Drys

Description

The beautiful village of Kato Drys belongs to the countryside of Larnaca. The village is situated in the middle of Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca and the villages of Vala, Pano and Kato Lefkara are relatively near.

Regarding the origin of the village's name, there are two interpretations. The first suggests that the village was named after the many "Dryes" trees (Oaks) that one could find in the village while the second suggests that in the past, there were two villages, the village of Pano Drys and the village of Kato Drys where among them, there was a massive Oak.

However, during the last years, there is an interesting tendency being observed. A lot of emigrants begun to recondition their homes or to build new ones. This is an optimistic perspective for the future of the village and the forgotten prestige of it, returns back.

In nowadays, the inhabitants of Kato Drys are not as occupied with stockbreeding and agriculture as they used to be in the past. A lot of them now deal with the several wine-making varieties of wines that have been planted the last three years in the village since there are plans for a modern winery in the near future. In addition, the popular embroideries of Lefkara are made in the village of Kato Drys.
