Description: Saria is an island along the northern edge of Karpathos separated from it by a strait 100 m wide. Saria was one of the 4 ancient cities of Karpathos, during the Dorian era, named Nisyros. The island is full of ancient monuments, ruins and settlements residues. Today Saria has been characterized an important area for the Birds of Europe, as it provides shelter for a great number of rare bird species, as well as an area where Mediterranean Monk Seal, breads.

You can only reach Saria by boat. Touristic boats depart from Pigadia certain days of the week. Boat arrives at Palatia, that it was a settlement of Arabs and was used as the base for their raids.This is where the ancient city of Nisyros, was located. While approaching (be careful) the chapel located on top of the mountain, Agios Zacharias, you will see Argos, a rural settlement, which has been abandoned. The preserved stone buildings compose a picturesque landscape. The island doesnt have any drinkable water but usually the boat, that carries you there, has. Take your mask to enjoy the wonderful underwater caves and the green blue crystal water!
