Description: Karpathos Town, named Pigadia (which means wells) is the capital of the island. Built on the south-east side of the island, around 1000 A.D by the Dorian people, it was the largest of the four ancient cities of the island. The ancient name of Pigadia was Potidheo.

Nowadays Pigadia is the political, financial, market and touristic center of the island. Touristic port, Banks, coffee shops, restaurants ,offering a variety of cuisines, souvenir shops, pharmacies, hospital, super markets, kiosks, travel agencies, hotels and studios, bars, clubs and a huge beach, will probably satisfy everything a tourist needs for the summer vacations.

You should not miss: the Building of the Governor of Karpathos - Kasos Province (Eparhio), built during the italian occupation. On the corner of the building you will find the Archaelogical museum of Karpathos. Also, next to the playground across the building, you will see an early baptismal font. From Eparhio go towards the sea and visit the monument of the fallen Aviator (Dedicated to Flight Lieutenant Konstantinos Iliakis) just above the sea next to the town beach. Leaving the town and following the central road towards Aperi, on your right hand you will find the ruins of Saint Fotini basilica church of the 4th century.

Furthermore, on the other side of the town, following an uphill asphalt road, visit the little chapel of Larniotissa (near the large parking lot) celebrating on 8th of September across the chapel, follow the path to the Huge cross and enjoy the great view of the Karpathian sea. During the summer season you can attend many cultural events in the open theatre by the sea next to Eparhio.
