A Museum since 1887, Bankfield tells the story of Halifax and Calderdale, using its rich and diverse collections.

Set in the attractive surroundings of Akroyd Park, at the centre of Akroydon model village conservation area, this Victorian mansion was the home of local mill owner, philanthropist and MP, Colonel Edward Akroyd.

Bankfield Museum's displays cover local history, costume, art, toys, military history, jewellery and textiles from around the world. We also host temporary exhibitions including costume, embroidery, quilting, textile art, paintings and photography. See our Exhibition Page for full listings.

The top floor of the Museum is currently home to 'For King and Country', an award winning exhibition commemorating the region's involvement in the First World War.

The Museum and all exhibitions are free entry. Bankfield Museum also has a shop and refreshments on sale.

We are a short distance from the centre of Halifax, with free parking and close to public transport links.

Facilities:
Parking- The car park is located close to the entrance of the site and behind the museum is further parking next to a disabled access ramp and entrance. 
Toilets- Separate male, female and accessible toilets. Baby changing facilities within the disabled toilet.
Refreshments- A selection of snacks and hot and cold drinks are available to purchase on the Ground Floor.
Shop- There are a selection of items and crafts for sale in our Shop on the Ground Floor.
