- Chapel of Agia Thekla
Description
East of Sotira, in a location found a few meters from the sea, at the point where the Turkish army landed in 1571 and set foot and conquered Famagusta, the Christians chose to build a Church in honor of Agia Thekla.
There are indications that in the same location back in the ancient years there was a paleochristian basilica. In addition, a few meters from the Church, there is a small cave. Some believe that it is a catacomb and others that it is a tomb. The truth behind it is probably different.
The small chapel is chosen by many couples to celebrate the sacrament of marriage in it. The beautiful location and its Aegean colours create wonderful images when they "mix" with the sea's waves. On the opposite side, in a small distance, there is a small island that has the Church's name. The island of Agia Thekla.
