Description

The third port of Piraeus is Mikrolimano. Used to have many different names during the period of history. Fanari, Tourkolimano, Koumoundourou port. In ancient times, it was named Port Mounichia. It was given the name Fanari during the Byzantium, probably because there was a lighthouse (fanos) at its entrance. It was called Koumoundourou port because of the namesake mansion that existed there now replaced by Nautical Club of Greece. It was given the name Tourkolimano during the revolution period, in 1821.

In 1925, the name changed to the ancient one, Mounichia Port. Unfortunately the new name couldn’t be established and people were still calling it Tourkolimano. Then on 1967 the Mayor Aristides Skylitsis changed it to the nowadays Mikrolimano.

It is a part of the district of Kastella, connected by the narrow streets. Alongside the coast you will find many cafés, restaurants and especially fish restaurants which are very famous in the whole region of  Athens and can serve the best Greek Meze and fresh fish. Many famous Chefs serve their creations in Mikrolimano, and you get the feeling of a greek island all year round.
