Description

The port of Zea or Pasalimani is the second in size of the three ports of Piraeus. It could host up to 196 triremes (war ships), which was the symbol of sovereignty of the Athenian state. The name of Zea comes from the ancient cereal.  The name Pasalimani was used during the Ottoman occupation, because Pashas(leader) of Athens visited the sea with their harems for swimming.

Pasalimani nowadays is the center of entertainment of Piraeus. The coastal road is full of restaurants, café and shops, especially Kanari Square, due to the fact that many cafeterias are located there.
