The Lighthouse

;

Description

Korakas Headland first operated in 1863 and was built by the French lighthouse company near the village of Sikaminias in Lesvos. The height of the tower is 6.5 meters and its focal height is 20 meters. It joined the Greek lightning network after the Balkan Wars of 1912-13.

At first it operated with a "live" flame that rolled up with a pulley mechanism on a metal column. 1981 was supplied with electricity. Access to the lighthouse is quite difficult from land. Leaving Skamnia back through difficult paths and a lot of hiking, you can reach Korakas tower and lighthouse that stands proud but abandoned just 6 nautical miles across the Turkish coast.
