Description

Stavros is located in the southern part of Lesvos. It's a really small village close to Vatera. The inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

Particularly renowned for the famous rupees, the "mizythra" (a greek type of cheese), the oil cheese, frumenty, vegetables without fertilizers and mushrooms gathered under the pine trees.

The attractions of the village are the churches of Agia Paraskevi, the church of St. Bartholomeu and the church of Agios Therapon. Also there is the church of St. George in the foundations of which there are findings that reveal that there was formerly a church built there to serve the needs of the settlement. There are a lot of ancient objects found there, indicating that the area has been inhabited since ancient times. Around the village there are wonderful hiking trails.
