Lepetimnos

;

Description

Lepetimnos is located 8 km from the village of Molyvos, in the north part of the island. Lepetimnos is the largest mountain in Lesvos, with an altitude of nearly 968 meters. The mountain got its name from the hero of the Trojan War, Lepetimnos. On the slopes of the mountain are numerous christian monuments and villages can also be found in the extensive forest.

From Theophrastus it has come to light that the sanctuary of Apollo was an ancient observatory in Lepetimnos and so were the monument of the hero Lepetimnos and the tomb of Palamidi. The beautiful church of the Assumption with the very old image of the Virgin Mary can be observed for their substantial old beauty.
