Description

Lafionas is located 5 km south-west of Petra village and 52 km from the town of Mytilene. It is built on the slope of the Dark mountain, at an altitude of 250 meters. The official name is Lathiona (from the ancient Greek verb ‘Latent’ means shake off someone's attention hiding). It is a small picturesque village with panoramic view.

An interesting sight is the basilica church of Assumption built in 1807. The biggest event of the village is the feast of Agia Paraskevi on 26 July.

The area holds archaeological interest due to the Ionic capitals that indicate the existence of an ancient temple. Also, at Agios Alexandros one can find ruins of an early Christian basilica era.
