Description

The Church of the Archangels (Taxiarches) is located at Taxiarches Village (or Kayiani), just a few kilometers away from Mytilene.  It was built in 1903 and it is the third building that has taken the place of the previous two.

It is a cruciform church, of Byzantine architectural style, with gothic elements.

It is one of the most remarkable churches of the island because of its impressive dome and interior decoration.

The stunning fresco of Archangel Gabriel is preserved along with the wall on which it was painted, from the oldest church.
