The windmill of Perama was built literally on the sea and is located just outside the Papados village at Gera Bay. The bay narrows at that point and the winds are quite strong.
It dates to the early 20th century and was constructed from irregular local stones and solid bricks. It used to serve the needs of the “Sourlaga” tannery in the acorn grinding.
The mill ceased operating many years ago. Nowadays, it constitutes one of the important production and trade monuments of Lesvos and an integral part of the Bay landscape.
