The Castle of Molyvos (Castle of Mithymna)

;

Description

The Castle of Molyvos is the second most important fortress of Lesvos. Its current form is the result of repair works by the Genoese sovereign rulers in the 14th century, while some additions and repairs were made by the Ottomans later.

On the castle hill, there was an ancient acropolis since the 5th century BC. The Byzantines built a fortress in the place of the Acropolis, probably in the 6th century AD.

The castle in its current form consists of 10 towers, two strongholds, the northeastern part of the acropolis, five buildings inside the castle (two of them in ruins) and two ramparts to strengthen vulnerable parts.
